Can I watch tv over cable using a DVB-T reciever?

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Do I need to have specifically a DVB-C receiver to watch digital tv over cable, or will a DVB-T do?
I want to know if i can receive digital tv signal with a dvb-t receiver, I'm asking this because I want to buy a PC USB DVB-T receiver, and connect it to cable TV instead of the terrestrial antenna.
I have a box installed by the cable company, that might be a DVB-C receiver, that allows me to watch all the channels, but when I connect the TV without that box, I can still watch a few channels (analog, of course).

That's why I want to know if a DVB-T would catch any channels at all via cable, like the analog TV can.

How can I hook speakers up to my tv?

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

I have a small tv with not so great sound so I just wanted to hook up a small pair of speakers to it (like computer speakers). The manual for my tv says "use a digital audio coaxial cable to connect this unit to external digital audio devices."
Does this mean the average computer speaker would work?
and would I be able to find an adapter to link everything together or are there small speakers with this type of plug on it?
and I don't need a Receiver right?

thanks!!!
actually i just noticed that my dvd player has the same coaxial plug on the back that my tv has (i dont know if its an input or output tho) and the dvd player has a headphone jack so if i were to link the tv and the dvd player with the digital audio coaxial cable, would i be able to plug computer speakers into the headphone jack on the dvd player without using a reciever?
and also the ONLY audio output on my tv is the coaxial output...it dont have headphone jacks or the red and white outputs (i only have the inputs)

and thanks for all of your answers!

Please help with receiver connections? I have no idea what I’m doing.?

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

I have a Harman Kardon AVR 347 with two input HDMI slots and one HDMI output, LCD TV with two HDMI inputs (one also says DVI - not sure what that means either since there is a DVI slot as well with digital audio next to it), upconverting DVD player with HDMI and component outputs, Directv Basic Satelite Box (in the process of upgrading to Comcast HD but not yet allowed in my building and way too expensive to buy Directv HD Box) with S-Video and Analog Audio (Red, White & Yellow Plugs - only using Red and White for audio).

Here's how it's connected right now, please let me know if this will work:
- DVD HDMI to Receiver (HDMI Input 1)
- Directv S-Video and Analog Audio to Receiver (Video 2 Input)
- Receiver HDMI to LCD TV (HDMI Output to HDMI Input 2)

Do I need any other connections? Can the HDMI cable to the TV handle the basic analog audio and S-Video connection from the Satelite? How can I make this setup better? What else do I need? Please reply with any advise, THANKS

Surround sound echo from speaker…?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

I just hooked up my surround sound to my new TV ( the same as my old TV) and when the TV speakers are on I get an echo. This happens for DVD's as well as regular TV. I have an HDMI going from the cable box to TV and a digital optical cable from the Receiver to the DVD. I then have a cable from the cable box to the Receiver to get surround sound for the regular TV. Should I run the cable from the receiver directly into the back of the TV ?
Thanks for the info. What happenes if I get the echo from regular TV even when the surround sound is turned off ? It does it sometimes on commercials.

Why my surround sound system plays the radio a lot louder than the TV?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

I got a new surround sound system and the receiver has some thing like -60db to +16db sound range. -30db is pretty loud when playing the radio through it, but when i change it to tv settings i can turn it up to max volume and it still isnt that loud. i am just using a simple red and white audio cables from the digital cable box to the receiver. any thoughts on the lack of sound for the tv volume?

Plasma TV Question: What accessories do I need to get the best picture?

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Just got a 50" plasma tv but don't have any accessories except the HDMI cable that connects to my Hi-Def DVD player. I have basic cable but plan to get digital cable very soon (next week). The tv has a built-in tuner to pick up HDTV but I'm not sure what that means? Don't I need an antenna for that? I've see an HDTV Digital Receiver at Best Buy - do I need one of those? Thanks for the help!

how do you connect cable TV with all of these other audio-visual-sound devices???

Monday, August 9th, 2010

we cannot figure this out, but we must! okay, dig: my roommate and i are old audiophile farts. we literally have long-playing records made of vinyl! and we have CDs and a CD player(s), including one part of our stereo system, that will run 100 CDs one after the other. and we have a DVD player & DVDs. and we have a TURNTABLE! and real speakers! and cable TV, with a digital converter box! and an FM/AM receiver!

HOW do you connect all of these elements together (combo DVD/VHS players suck) in one entertainment center (that's real pretty) so that you can play all of them, as well as so that:

you can get the sound to come out of the big speakers rather than out of the TV speakers?

if you have a good diagram or can scan one, please tell me how i may ask for it via your email!!! Thanks!!! :)

Does watching over the air HD TV require a subscription from TiVo?

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

I have been looking at this Samsung receiver that lets my HD TV pickup free over the air HD programming. I am looking at this specific device right here: www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8102796&type=product&id=1161734592183 I want to buy this because my HD TV does not have a digital tuner, but it does have the 5 component connectors.

Now I am thinking about a TiVo. Their HD dual tuner model for 9.99 lets you watch free over the air high definition and lets you record. Recording would be kind of cool, but I can wait on that. So what I am wondering, can I just purchase the TiVo now and receive the free over the air HD programming and just buy the subscription later for the recording part? I don't need it right now for cable channels. Eventually I want to hook it up to cable channels as well as for over the air, but right when I purchase it, I just want to get CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox in HD over the air. Does this require a subscription for just that aspect of it?
